How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card and Find Your Strain

The year is 2022, and there is now more access to cannabis in the United States than ever before. 20 years ago, living in a country that has legalized marijuana in any way sounded like a pipe dream. However, here we are today living in that reality. There are currently around 40 states that have legalized medical marijuana programs for qualifying patients and about 19 or so more of those states that have also legalized recreational marijuana for all adults over the age of 21. If you are lucky enough to live in a state that has legalized recreational marijuana, then this article isn’t really for you - you can simply go to your nearest cannabis dispensary and buy whatever you want (if you are of legal age, of course).

However, many people living in the United States are not that lucky. For many, they must rely on their state’s medical marijuana program and have to apply for a marijuana card. If you are living in a state with such a program and would like to apply for a card, you have come to the right place. Today, I am going to be talking about how you can apply for and obtain your very own medical marijuana card, and how you can begin to find the strain and product that is right for you. I know that this whole thing can seem very overwhelming at first, but just stick with me to the end and you will be okay. So let’s get started.

The first thing that you are going to need to do in order to apply for a medical marijuana card is determine if you have a qualifying condition in your state. It is important to keep in mind that, just because your state has legalized medical marijuana, does not mean you can just get it for any medical condition. You have to have one of the medical conditions that the state has accepted to be treated with cannabis. If you do not have one of these conditions, you will not be able to apply for a medical marijuana card. Each state’s medical program is a little bit different, so you will have to look online to see exactly which types of conditions are covered.

Some of the more progressive states have very accepting programs that make room for all sorts of mental and physical health conditions, while others are very restrictive about what is allowed to be treated by medical marijuana usage (looking at you Texas). Either way, that is going to be the first step you need to take in order to apply for a medical marijuana card. The next thing that you need to do is find a health professional or doctor that can refer you into the state program. Of course, your end goal of seeing this doctor is to be referred to the medical marijuana program, but you should take advantage of this opportunity to ask the doctor all sorts of questions regarding your health condition and using marijuana. The doctor will assess your past medical records as well as your current condition to determine if using cannabis would be right for you. Once your doctor has referred you, you can't wait to see if your application is approved by the state.

Finding the strain and product of cannabis that you like can be overwhelming to say the least. There are over 700 strains of cannabis, and each one is unique in its own way. Make sure to try out some of the most popular strains of marijuana first in order to get a feel for them, then you can go from there. Hope this helps!
